How long does your digital data last

Do you know that most digital information stored on today’s storage media has a “shelf-life” of somewhere between 2 and 5 years?  Yes, they make archival storage media but I would guess that less than .001% of all data is stored on archival media.

Of course we don’t really think about this…we are accustomed to losing data and for the most part, it doesn’t really affect our lives…

We are living in the era of covered wagons, dirt floors and out houses in our “digital world”.  We don’t understand our future in the all-digital world.

It will only take one big data loss to change things.

But,

of course,

then it will be,

well,

too late.
